    • BCSP held lecture for Serbian Army on civil-military cooperation

    •
    • Date: 11 May 2012
Civil society organizations are motivated to deal with security issues, contributing to the development of relationships with local communities, multiculturalism, and support of independent state institutions. Major challenges include the lack of expertise and inexperience in cooperating with institutions, organizations’ lack of capacity and under-representation in the media, closure of state institutions, and confidentiality of information – a conclusion of the BCSP lectures prepared for the Serbian Army.

BCSP researcher Zorana Brozović delivered on May 11tha presentation at the “Car Lazar” barracks in Krusevac aimed at acquainting students in the civil-military cooperation course with the achievements of civil society actors in the security sector.

The lecture was attended by approximately 20 officers and military officials and included information on: the BCSP; the structure and activities of domestic, foreign, and international civil society organizations; and how NGOs impact Serbia’s security structure.

The introduction was followed by a discussion on ways to define civil society and its function in peace building - a subject of particular interest to members of the Serbian Army.

The Department of Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of Serbia, with the help of the Center for Nuclear-Biological-Chemical Defense Staff Training, Command for the Development of the Rasinski Brigade, and the 246th Battalion ABHO, organized the “Basic Staff Course in the Field of Civil-Military Cooperation” in May.
