    • "Privatization of Security in Weak States: Case of Serbia" by Predrag Petrović now available

    •
    • Date: 30 November 2011
Čigoja Press publishing house has recently published the book "The Privatization of Security in Weak States: Case of Serbia" written by Predrag Petrović, Research Coordinator at BCSP.

The author aims to answer the question why private security in Serbia has not been regulated by law for more than 17 years, despite the fact that between 40,000 and 60,000 (armed) individuals are employed in the sector.

Author builds his arguments from the theory of defective democracy and the premise of existence of so-called reserved domains. Starting from theory, we read through pages of empirical material collected during years of Predrag's research into this phenomenon in Serbia. Author of the book explores and analyzes the conditions and actors, their interaction and the interests for preventing the normative regulation of the private security sector in Serbia. It shows how these interests and actors are related to economic interests and covert information gathering, but also to criminal activity.
