    • CCMR Research Fellows participated at the University of Bristol Workshop

    •
    • Date: 20 June 2007

On July 19th Institute for Advanced Studies and University of Bristol organized a workshop entitled “Illiberal Transformation or Protracted Transition?”

The workshop gathered an international group of experts to reflect on the state of Serbia seven years after the fall of Milošević.

The main question underlying the vivid and interesting discussions was whether transition in Serbia is just slower than that of central and eastern European countries or took qualitatively different - illiberal shape of its own.

Two different theoretical frameworks presented by Denisa Kostoviceva and Tim Edmunds opened the workshop, followed by transitional achievements and challenges in the political (Đorđe Pavićević), economic (Will Bartlett) and security (Miroslav Hadzić) sectors.

The afternoon session focused on EU integration (Judy Batt), ICTY (Filip Ejdus), Kosovo status (Sonja Stojanović) and wider societal issues (Tim Juddah). Due to a very positive feedback by all the participants, it was agreed that the presentations will be published in some of the upcoming editions of the Western Balkans Security Observer.

Sonja Stojanović, Miroslav Hadžić and Filip Ejdus participated at the workshop on the behalf of Centre for Civil-Military Relations and Belgrade School of Security Studies.
