"Kosovo status story will remain a process for a very long time" said Forum for Ethnic Relations Manager Dušan Janjić and University of Pittsburgh Professor Robert Hayden at the round table "Kosovo - the final-point in the break-up of Yugoslavia", organised at the Centre for Civil-Military Relations.

Judging that Kosovo presents a final act of indirect and violent state building, speakers reminded the audience that Kosovo constitutes just a part of crisis in Yugoslavia. "December 10 will mark victory for European pragmatism, that is, European Union will enter Kosovo, for which they have their men set, while Priština will have to wait for some more for what it's hoping for", said Janjić.

As Janjić said, conference in which EU's management over Kosovo will be confirmed is scheduled for spring. With this, a lasting "European protectorate" is going to be established, including two "separate tracks" for Serbia and Kosovo on their way to EU.

In explanation, Janjić argued that "Europeans do not share (American) idea that Kosovo should be independent", but are not willing to say so. Therefore, as Janjić implied, Europeans are hoping for any decision, just as long as they can take over the Kosovo mission, because of, among other things, salary of 50.000 euros per month payed for highest positions in the mission.

Professor Hayden also pointed out that he sees no clear solution for Kosovo status in the near future, reminding that Cyprus is even today divided into Turkish and Greek part, that there is Taiwan, the disputed Kashmir province, Macedonia practically divided, Northern Ireland example, Catalonia, Bask country, West Mostar under full control of Bosnian Croats...."I do not see a clear solution for Kosovo. Will it be the Taiwanese model, Cyprian, Cashmere, Irish, Pakistani or Macedonian, I do not know", said Hayden and added "that you can call Western Macedonia Macedonia, but that it is not subordinated to Skopje".

"Just try to speak Macedonian after you cross the bridge in Skopje...” Hayden argued. "Not even a multi-multi-multi ethnical Europe is not immune to secessionist tendencies and desires", but there it is called "regionalism". There will be no Belgium in ten years time, Hayden believes.
