    • Making Security Sector Reform Closer to Political Parties’ Understanding

    •
    • Date: 25 November 2008

Sonja Stojanović, Director of the Centre, has appeared as an independent expert at the 20th meeting of the Liberal-Democratic Party Board for European Integration, after being invited by the Board’s president. In the first part of the meeting, Sonja tried to explain why police reform is important for the process of Serbia's stabilisation and association to the European Union.

Sonja presented the priorities of police reform as seen from the EU member states, accomplishments of state administration(s) so far, and the challenges of implementing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement lying ahead for Prime Minister Cvetković’s Government. Members of the Board were primarily interested for the prospects of liberalising the visa regime, can police communicate with minorities with enough understanding, and the possibilities for learning from other countries that have recently joined the EU.

Members of the CCMR research team are prepared to present their studies to all political parties in Serbia interested in democratisation of the security sector and integration to the European Union.
