    • Securing the Future: Gender and Security Sector Reform in Serbia"

    •
    • Date: 21 April 2010

The Centre for Civil-Military Relations (CCMR), together with the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence (BFPE) and the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) is pleased to invite you to the conference

"Securing the Future: Gender and Security Sector Reform in Serbia"

to be held on 29 April 2010, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Hotel Balkan, Prizrenska 2 street, Belgrade.

The aim of the conference is to provide representatives of state institutions, civil society organizations and international organizations with a platform to exchange knowledge and experiences on security sector reform and gender.

The first part of the conference will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss the key findings of the needs assessment on Gender and Security Sector Reform, prepared by the BFPE, and the results of the consultations held on the issue in Kragujevac, Novi Sad, Novi Pazar and Bujanovac during March 2010. Questions taken up, amongst others, are:

      • What are the present achievements and obstacles in addressing the specific security needs and perceptions of women and men in Serbia?
      • How can the integration of women in security sector institutions be further strengthened?
      • How can co-ordination and communication mechanisms between the central and the local level be improved?

The second part of the conference mainly targets representatives of local institutions and organisations. Small working group discussions will provide the opportunity for frank exchange and debate of the key findings of the needs assessment and the conclusions from the local consultations, and lead to the formulation of concrete follow-up activities, and recommendations.

We hope you will accept our invitation and join us in the first part of the conference. Your presence would greatly contribute to the conferences’ impact and success.
