    • BCSP helps fight against discrimination

    •
    • Date: 27 June 2012
Belgrade Centre for Security Policy has become a member of the Thematic Group for the Advancement of Women and throug that takes part in drafting the National Strategy for Combating Discrimination.

The first meeting of the thematic group, established by the Department of Human and Minority Rights of the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, Public Administration, and Local Government was held on Monday, June 25th, at the Palace of Serbia. Researcher Maja Bjeloš represented BCSP at the meeting.

“This is a big step because it shows that the authorities have the desire to include civil society organizations in finding solutions to important problems, such as the discrimination against women in Serbia. BCSP will actively participate in the development of a national strategy against discrimination. I believe the great amount of experience that our organization acquired in dealing with the topic of gender and security, as well as protection of human rights in the police and military forces, will contribute greatly to the strategy,” said Maja Bjeloš.

In addition to BCSP, members of the group include the following civil society organizations:

      Autonomous Women’s Center

      Belgrade Center for Human Rights

      Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence

      Centre E8

      Center for Democracy Foundation

The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights

      Iz Kruga

Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights (YUCOM)

      Praxis
