    • Roundtable on Institutional Protection from Gender-Based Discrimination in the Security Sector

    •
    • Date: 30 November 2012
The Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) and the Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) are organising the roundtable on Practices and models of institutional protection from gender-based discrimination in the security sector, which will take place on 30 November 2012 starting at 10 am in the premises of the BCSP (Gundulićev venac street 48, I floor).

By organizing this roundtable BCSP and DCAF want to contribute to achieving the objectives envisaged in the National Action Plan for the Implementation of UNSC Resolution 1325 and the National Strategy for the Advancement of Women and Gender Equality, which should ensure the implementation of instruments for strengthening the protection of women's human rights and gender equality.

Although in the recent years the legal framework for the protection against discrimination in Serbia has been improved, discrimination in many areas of society is still present. The security sector is therefore not different from the rest of society, so it is necessary to improve the existing mechanisms to protect employees from gender-based discrimination.

During the roundtable the main findings of research on the mechanisms of protection against gender-based discrimination in the security sector in Serbia will be presented.  Afterwards, Dutch Army Lt. Col. Christianne Vermueand Chief of Operations and Deputy Chief of Amsterdam Police Gerald Oud Ammerveld will speak about the experiences and the best practices of implementation of the gender equality and anti-discrimination protection mechanisms of employees in their respective institutions.

The roundtable will allow audience (professionals in the security sector, representatives of institutions for gender equality, civil society and the media) insight into different experiences and models of anti-discrimination policies in the security sector.

Translation from Serbian into English language will be provided.

Please confirm your participation by Wednesday, 28 November 2012 by e-mail: gorana.odanovic@bezbednost.org  or by phone: 011/3287 334.
