    • Presentation of the publication "Free Access to Information of Public Importance - Theory and Practice"

    •
    • Date: 06 February 2014
Implementation of the Law on free access to information of public importance will be the topic of panel discussion organized by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, during which will be presented BCSP publication "Free Access to Information of Public Importance - Theory and Practice".

Panel discussion and the presentation of the publication will be held on Thursday 6 February 2014 at 11:00 in the Media Centre (Belgrade, Terazije 3).

In 2013 Serbia won an international award for the best regulations in the world in the field of freedom of access to information of public importance, but nobody has done any comprehensive analysis of the implementation of the law in practice. The publication "Free Access to Information of Public Importance - Theory and Practice" allows the reader to gain a real insight and to notice deficiencies in the implementation of the law, but also shows how the best law can be implemented badly.

The research findings presented in this publication will be discussed by:

      • Stanojla Mandić, Deputy Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection
      • Marko Milosevic, BCSP researcher,
      • Ivana Jeremić, Center for Investigative Reporting in Serbia (CINS)

Moderator of the discussion will be Predrag PetrovicBCSP Executive Director.

During the presentation of a publication, it will be discussed:

      • deficiencies of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance
      • recommendations for its effective implementation,
      • ways in which the right of access to information is used and respected by citizens, media, civil society organizations and public authorities.

The number of participants is limited due to the seating capacity, and the participation must be confirmed no later than Wednesday, 5 February by email office@bezbednost.org or phone 011/3287-226.

The panel discussion is part of the project "Free Access to Information of Public Importance: Theory and Practice", implemented by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) and the Center for Investigative Reporting in Serbia (CINS). The project is financially supported by the Fund for an Open Society Serbia within the program "Transparency, accountability and public integrity".
