The Building Integrity Conference on Institution Building which took place in Oslo from March 3 to March 6, 2014, gathered more than 60 participants from 19 countries to discuss on development and implementation of integrity plans within the defense sector.

“NATO Building Integrity Conference on Institution Building helped me to further build up on my knowledge of various countries’ anti-corruption policies. Moreover, it allowed me to reinforce my understanding of what are the present challenges within international defense sector and how to contribute to tackling these”, said BCSP researcher Dusan Radivojevic.

With other BCSP researchers Radivojevic will use his report and other material from conference for preparing policy product that will tackle the problem of integrity plan development and implementation.

NATO Building Integrity Conference objective was to elaborate how should integrity plan be developed and implemented within the defense sector. The aim of the conference was to unite participants in its efforts to build competence, raise awareness and provide practical means to reduce risks of corruption worldwide. The outcome of the conference - a generic tool for the development of an integrity plan - will be elaborated further by Centre for Integrity in Defense Sector, in close cooperation with its partners.

NATO Building Integrity Conference on Institution Building Conference was organized by the Centre for Integrity in Defense Sector (CIDS) and it gathered together distinguished experts from Ministry of Defense of Norway, Ministry of Defense of Serbia, NATO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Transparency International, United Kingdom Defense Academy and various other institutions specialists.

The three-day conference took place at Oslo Military Society. The keynote speaker, Norwegian Minister of Defence Ine Eriksen Søreide, underlined the vital importance of combatting corruption and fighting for integrity in the defense sector. Pointing to the newly released EU report on corruption, the Defense Minister stated that more than half of Europeans think that the level of corruption in their country has increased over the past three years.

“Corruption erodes trust in public institutions and in democracy. Where widespread mistrust prevails, it seriously may challenge the stability of a nation”, said Eriksen Søreide.

BCSP Researcher Dusan Radivojevic and BCSP are invited to the upcoming workshop in Warsaw entitled “Improvement of Self-Assessment and Development of Self-Assessment Tools” which will be held from 15 to 17 April, 2014. Improvement of Self-Assessment and Development of Self-Assessment Tools workshop has for its objective to elaborate and push forward development of anti-corruption more advanced tools.
