    • Parliamentary Oversight of Police

      To what extent MPs of the National Assembly monitor the work of the police and why monitoring is important for strengthening the integrity of the police are the main topics of the event Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) organizes on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at 11 am in the Media Centre (Secondary Hall, II floor, Terazije 3, Belgrade).

      Research on the quality of parliamentary oversight of the police and recommendations for strengthening the National Assembly's supervisory role on the work of the police will be presented at the event. The recommendations presented will be an integral part of the Roadmap for strengthening the integrity of the police in the Western Balkans.

      Members, deputy membersand the Chairperson of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, representatives of parliamentary groups in the National Assembly, representatives of the Ministry of Interior, representatives of independent control institutions, civil society organizations’ members and the media are invited to participate.

      The focus of the discussion will be:

      • To what extent is the National Assembly exercising its supervisory role of the executive power?
      • What is the impact of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee on police oversight?
      • What are the effects of asking parliamentary questions on security?
      • How important are the reports of independent control institutions for parliamentary oversight of the police?
      • What needs to be done to improve the parliamentary oversight of the police?

      The research and recommendations will be presented by:
