The Balkan Defence Monitor as independent and comprehensive source of information regarding defence topics. The first iteration of the Balkan Defence Monitor entails detailed information on defence expenditure in the region, military exercises with international partners, foreign donations, participation in multinational operations and women in defence systems. The report covers data for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of reliable comparative data regarding defence systems of countries in the region is providing fertile ground for fear-inducing narratives by local politicians and media which could harm the already fragile trust. Bilateral and regional tensions are often provoked by officials&#8217; statements or inflammatory media reporting on defence issues and arms race between neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n<p>These topics will be discussed by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Marija Ignjatijevi<\/strong><strong>c<\/strong>, BCSP researcher<\/li>\n<li><strong>Luka \u0160teri\u0107<\/strong>, BCSP researcher<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sead Tur\u010dalo<\/strong>, dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo<\/li>\n<li><strong>Igor Tabak<\/strong>, analyst, \u201eObris\u201c portal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Opening remarks will be given by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Igor Bandovi\u0107<\/strong>, BCSP director<\/li>\n<li><strong>E.<\/strong> <strong>Giles Norman<\/strong>, ambassador of Canada to Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nikola Burazer, program director of Center for Contemporary Politics and executive editor of European Western Balkans will moderate the discussion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you want to participate, ask a question or comment on the findings, please <a href=\"https:\/\/us02web.zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/5216467513214\/WN_1oQCWL4URJG9G7Ao2ioyhQ\">register here<\/a> by Friday, March 11, after which you will receive a Zoom link.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Translation to English will be provided on Zoom.<\/p>\n<p><em>This event is organised within the Transparent Defence Systems for Peaceful Western Balkans project with the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How much do the countries in the Balkans spend on defence?
