{"id":20756,"date":"2012-06-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-06-26T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bezbednost.org\/improving-the-management-of-migration\/"},"modified":"2020-07-21T19:40:47","modified_gmt":"2020-07-21T17:40:47","slug":"improving-the-management-of-migration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bezbednost.org\/en\/improving-the-management-of-migration\/","title":{"rendered":"Improving the management of migration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t<strong>{image1}<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\t<strong>The three-day seminar in Pali\u0107 was attended by approximately 50 participants from more than 30 civil society organizations, including the UNHCR and the Commissariat for Refugees, as well as numerous representative of local institutions located in municipalities bordering Hungary and responsible for managing migration, asylum, and readmission.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\tIn addition to lectures and workshops, the seminar\u2019s organizers facilitated a dialogue between the participants and representatives of state agencies that are in direct contact with asylum seekers and returnees in the readmission process.<\/p>\n<p>\t\u201cThe bad impression created by the absence of representatives from the Ministry of Interior was corrected by the very informative visit to the Horgo\u0161 border crossing. During the visit, the seminar\u2019s participants, who are generally viewed by border police as having a repressive approach to the problem, learned more about illegal crossings and the steps taken after the irregular migrant &#8211; a potential asylum seeker &#8211; has been detained,\u201d said Marko Savkovi\u0107, a researcher at BCSP, who with his colleagues from Group 484 and the Belgrade Center for Human Rights organized the seminar.<\/p>\n<p>\t<strong>{image2}<\/strong><strong>Funding remains the key problem <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\tA panel of experts provided insight into the high level of complexity and the numerous factors that govern the relationship between irregular migrants and the local population. In addition, representatives of the Center for Social Work, the Red Cross, and local authorities from Kanji\u017ea and Subotica discussed their experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\t\u201cThe response by the system and the provision of help is still substantially based on the enthusiasm of individuals, which in an orderly country should not be the case,\u201d emphasized Maria Bia\u010di, representative from the City Council of Subotica, during the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>\tSpecific attention was drawn to the term \u201cfake asylum seeker\u201d and the danger persistent use of this term presented to an entire group of people.
