For this trend they blame government the most, and then the bullies and\u00a0distorted value system. According to respondents, the main causes of violence are bad economic situation, poverty and lack of opportunities, shows<\/strong><strong>\u00a0BCSP\u00a0<\/strong><strong>research\u00a0<\/strong><strong>&#8220;Citizens of Serbia on Security &#8211; Potential for Violence&#8221;<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\tHowever, BCSP researcher <strong>Katarina Djokic<\/strong>\u00a0points to the fact that violence is unacceptable for the most of Serbian citizens.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\">\t&#8220;Despite the great dissatisfaction with the economic situation, almost two-thirds of citizens are not willing to use violence to draw the attention of politicians to economic problems. However, 69 percent of citizens would be willing to commit violence if personal and family safety is in danger, 43 % in order to protect the nation, and 35% for the protection of traditional values and livestyle\u201d, emphasized Katarina Djokic at\u00a0conference in Media Center.<\/div>\n<div class=\"clear\">\t\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"anterfile\">\tAlmost half of the respondents believe that Serbian government and state institutions are the most responsible for violence. But, at the same time, majority of respondents said thay don&#39;t expect even peaceful demonstrations any time soon. A typical answer of these respondents was: \u201dwe are nation that can tolerate a lot&#8221;, said BCBP researcher.<\/div>\n<p>\t&#8220;The vast majority of citizens, 78 percent, think that only peaceful protests are legitimate, while one-fifth of respondents don\u2019t fully oppose to the stoning of police &#8211;\u00a0 which is more acceptable then burning of embassies. The only exception to the low acceptance for violence is the attitude towards Pride. Half of the respondents believe that Parade organisers deliberately provoke violence, and two-thirds of them consider that gay population don\u2019t endanger them\u201d, pointed out Katarina Djokic.<\/p>\n<p>\tIn addition to public opinion polls, which was realized by <strong>CeSiD<\/strong> on the territory of Serbia (without Kosovo and Metohija) from 18 to 25 September, this project also included eight focus groups and in-depth interviews in six cities.<\/p>\n<p>\tBCSP intern <strong>Isidora Stakic<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was participating in two focus groups. For her, the most interesting one was focus group held in Novi Pazar.<\/p>\n<p>\t\u201eResearch implemented among young Serbs and Bosniaks from Novi Pazar showed that they do feel safe. They also blame media for potentiation of ethnic division. The only difference in their ansawers is related to the work of police. Serbs are satisfied, but Bosniaks think that police is not efficient. Futhermore, they all agree that police is corrumped\u201c, said Isidora Stakic.<\/p>\n<p>\tOther BCSP intern, <strong>Jovana Jovanovic<\/strong>, participated in interviews with members of the sport club fun groups. Her conclusion is that \u201cmembers of these groups don\u2019t see violence as something bad, more so, they have standing that every real fun has police record\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\t\u201cOne of our respondents consider that, and I will quote him, \u201cthe idea of Serbdom can be achieved only by football\u00a0 fun\u201d. They also pointed out their participation on barricades, and protests after meeting \u201cKosovo is Serbia\u201d and arrest of Radovan Karadzic\u201d, said BCSP intern Jovana Jovanovic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three out of four Serbian citizens think there has been an increase in violence in the last few years. This percentage is particularly alarming in Belgrade (84%) and among young people (82%).
