\tFrom the 115 candidates that applied for the internship, the best eight were selected. During the introductory seminar held on 19 February they met with members of the BCSP team and inquired further information about the projects and activities in which they will be engaged in the future. <\/strong><\/p>\n \tVice-President of the Executive Board and one of the founders of BCSP, which was called Center for Civil-Military Relations at that time, Milorad Timoti\u0107<\/a> spoke about the early days of the organization, as well as about some of the major projects that have been implemented so far.<\/p>\n \t“Activity of the Center for Civil-Military Relations, was various from its forming. At the beginning the focus was on the research work and popularization of issues we deal with. We have launched a number of questions and opened issues which until then nobody in Serbia dealed with . The thing that we can say is that we have always managed to recruit top experts to work on our projects and that we untill today stayed the \u201eincubator of staff\u201c, or place for development of all those who are interested in serious research in the field of security”, said Timoti\u0107.<\/p>\n \tDuring the seminar interns had the opportunity to learn more about the security sector reform from the BCSP Executive Director Predrag Petrovic<\/a>. He presented the interns the origin of the concept of security sector reform, the reasons why it is important and phases of the process. As some of the reasons for the security sector reform, Petrovic indicated democratization, good governance, economic development, professionalism and conflict prevention.<\/p>\n \t{image2}Interns discussed what are think-tank organizations with BCSP Director Sonja Stojanovic Gajic<\/a>. Speaking abaout their development, Stojanovic Gajic said that these organizations appear most often in periods of social crisis, when they have taske to offer policy paper. Interns have made the difference between think-tanks, and political parties, media, intelligence agencies, institutes, and other types of civil society organizations. As the necessary qualities and skills that should have a person employed in the think-tank, during the discussion were pointed out: expertise for policy dealing with, autonomy in research, knowledge of research methods, communication skills, willingness for networking, curiosity, initiative and analytical skills.<\/p>\n
