{"id":20889,"date":"2015-09-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-22T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bezbednost.org\/bcsp-wins-both-2015-pasos-think-tank-awards\/"},"modified":"2020-07-21T20:52:03","modified_gmt":"2020-07-21T18:52:03","slug":"bcsp-wins-both-2015-pasos-think-tank-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bezbednost.org\/en\/bcsp-wins-both-2015-pasos-think-tank-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"BCSP wins both 2015 PASOS Think-Tank Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t<strong>The BCSP publication\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/pasos.org\/14209\/the-future-of-civil-protection-in-north-kosovo\/\">The Future of Civil Society Protection in North Kosovo<\/a>\u201d was honored with the 2015 PASOS Best Policy Publication of the Year Award, and the BCSP\u00a0was also honored with the 2015 PASOS Think-Tank\u00a0Achievement of the Year Award for its work organizing the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/belgradeforum.org\/\">Belgrade Security Forum<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\t<strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/pasos.org\/\">Policy Association for an Open Society PASOS<\/a> is a network of 56 policy centres in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The annual awards were announced at the PASOS General Assembly held in Tirana, Albania, on September 12, 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\tThe aworded paper was produced by BCSP researchers <a href=\"http:\/\/bezbednost.org\/BCSP\/4075\/Maja-Bjelos.shtml\">Maja Bjelos<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bezbednost.org\/BCSP\/5098\/Isidora-Stakic.shtml\">Isidora Stakic<\/a> and presents an independent analysis of the current state of the Civil Protection units in the four municipalities which consti\u00adtute North Kosovo, and suggests possible solutions for their future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"anterfile\">\t\u00a0\u201cIt carefully picks apart what is required to lessen the chance of conflict in the integration process that is fraught with suspicion and murky practices. It makes quite specific recommendations on steps that are required suggesting programs of re-employed, planned and supported retirement and gives the numbers of people that are affected. It makes a strong case of civil society\u2019s voice to be heard if a measure of transparency and consensus is to be reached,\u201d said awards juror Bohdan Krawchenko, Director General of University of Central Asia.<\/div>\n<p>\tThe publication was\u00a0published by BCSP and\u00a0Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.qkss.org\/en\/Home\">KCSS<\/a>) in the framework of the project \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bezbednost.org\/All-projects\/5017\/Security-Research-Forum-BelgradePrishtinaTirana.shtml\">Security Research Forum: Belgrade- Prishtina-Tirana<\/a>\u201d supported by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway. Research was supported by the Balkans Trust for Democracy\u2019s Professional Work Exchange Program for Enhanced Policy Dialogue, with the support of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\tPASOS Annual Awards are given in two categories, and the BCSP also won the the 2015 PASOS Think-Tank\u00a0Achievement of the Year Award for its work organizing the <a href=\"http:\/\/belgradeforum.org\/\">Belgrade Security Forum<\/a>, an annual gathering jointly initiated and designed by\u00a0BCSP, Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bfpe.org\/en\/\">BFPE<\/a>) and\u00a0European Movement in Serbia (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emins.org\/english\">EMinS<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bezbednost.org\/BCSP-News\/5611\/Fourth-Belgrade-Security-Forum-initiated-a.shtml\">At the fourth\u00a0Begrade Security Forum<\/a>, more than 450 participants, including officials and policymakers\u00a0from national, foreign, and international institutions, leading\u00a0independent experts, civil society organizations and the media, discussed a number of topics related to security and foreign policy of importance for Serbia, the region, and for the European Union.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"anterfile\">\t\u201cAfter four years, BSF has been able to attract attention from beyond the region and even beyond Europe but at the same time stay in close contact with local realities and use the international spotlight to mobilize local political elites to think in a larger context,\u201d said awards juror Gabriela Sv\u00e1rovsk\u00e1 (Dlouh\u00e1), former Director of Human Rights and Transition Policy Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Czech Republic.<\/div>\n<p>\tThe winners were\u00a0selected by a three-member jury of leading experts from the international think-tank world and experienced policymakers with a knowledge of the policy challenges facing young and aspiring democracies in Europe and Central Asia.
