{"id":20915,"date":"2016-05-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-05-11T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bezbednost.org\/the-negotiating-position-for-chapter-24-needs-improvement\/"},"modified":"2016-07-05T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-04T22:00:00","slug":"the-negotiating-position-for-chapter-24-needs-improvement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bezbednost.org\/en\/the-negotiating-position-for-chapter-24-needs-improvement\/","title":{"rendered":"The negotiating position for Chapter 24 needs improvement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t<strong>On behalf of the Working Group of the National Convention on the European Union, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) presented the key recommendations for improving the negotiating position for Chapter 24 to the Committee for European Integration on the meeting held on 12<sup>th<\/sup> May at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\tGreater transparency of the negotiations, the inclusion of CSO\u2019s for comments on the proposed measures of the action plans, coordination of activities on implementation of the strategic approach to the fight against crime, as well as the precise measures, deadlines and indicators for the implementation of police reform, are the key recommendations of the Working Group NKEU for improving the negotiating position for Chapter 24.<\/p>\n<div class=\"anterfile\">\t\u201cIt is very important for us that the negotiating position is adopted and that Serbia starts implementing the changes envisaged by the Action Plan for Chapter 24. In addition, it is important that this process is fully opened for CSO\u2019s and citizens, and we will insist on that in continuation of the accession process\u201d, said BCSP\u2019s Director Sonja Stojanovic Gajic.\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>\tAt the meeting that will be held on 13<sup>th<\/sup> May 2016, the current session of the Committee for European Integration will decide on the negotiating position for Chapter 24, as well as on suggestions of civil society on the proposed document.<\/p>\n<p>\tRepresentatives of the ruling majority weren\u2019t present at the meeting. However, according to the continuity, the present representatives of the Committee urged that Working Group for Chapter 24 NKEU present its work to the new Parliament, which will consist more than a half new deputies.<\/p>\n<p>\tAt the meeting held on 13<sup>th<\/sup> May 2016, the current session of the Committee for European Integration decided not to comment on the suggestions of the civil society on the proposed document.
