\tSecurity sector reform is a complex concept that Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) wants to bring closer to youth and everyone who is interested to know more about security. This is the reason BCSP initiated #bezbednostABC (securityABC) and gathered students to present these topics in an understandable way through different online platforms. First workshop, focused on basic concepts, was held on 18 and 19 April 2019 in Belgrade.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\tBCSP researcher and internship programme coordinator Marija Ignjatijevic<\/a><\/strong> presented the initiative #bezbednostABC and pointed out the importance of youth participation in creating content intended for their peers.<\/p>\n

\tBCSP Director Sonja Stojanovic Gajic <\/a><\/strong>talked with participants about the concept of security sector reform and the role of civil society.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cCivil society participation contributes to the inclusivity and better efficiency and accountability of security institutions. There is not one single voice of civil society, rather the actors have different topics of interest and methods of working,\u201d stressed Stojanovic Gajic.<\/strong><\/div>\n

\tBesides the state and civil society, the important actors are the international organizations. Branka Bakic<\/strong> presented the role of OSCE Mission to Serbia in security sector reform.<\/p>\n

\tWorkshop participants had the opportunity to improve their skills in various practical exercises. After presentation of BCSP researcher Jelena Pejic<\/a><\/strong> on the topic of national security system of Serbia, the participants have tried ranking the security threats in descending order.<\/p>\n

\tBCSP researcher Sasa Djordjevic<\/a><\/strong> talked with students on the topic of police reform.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cThe task of democratically organized police force is to function as an accountable and transparent service of citizens, which has integrity and professionalism. It should support the rule of law and continually improve itself,\u201d explained Djordjevic.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/div>\n

\t\u00a0On the next workshop the participants will learn how to present these subjects so that they can be understandable and available to citizens through Wikipedia.<\/p>\n

\tThe workshop was organized as a part of project \u201cPromoting good governance in security sector and security sector reform concepts on open online platforms\u201d that Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) realizes with the support of OSCE Mission to Serbia.<\/em><\/p>\n
