{"id":17138,"date":"2012-04-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-03T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bezbednost.org\/publikacija\/the-demarcation-process-between-serbia-and-montenegro\/"},"modified":"2023-08-06T15:18:59","modified_gmt":"2023-08-06T13:18:59","slug":"the-demarcation-process-between-serbia-and-montenegro","status":"publish","type":"publikacija","link":"https:\/\/bezbednost.org\/en\/publication\/the-demarcation-process-between-serbia-and-montenegro\/","title":{"rendered":"The Demarcation Process between Serbia and Montenegro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this study we explored\u00a0<strong>how the incomplete demarcation process influences l<\/strong><strong>ocal communities and what their priorities are concerning this issue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It has been five years since Serbia and Montenegro became separate countries.<\/strong>\u00a0The process of demarcating the border between two countries started in 2008 when a commission for delimitation was created. The negotiations halted when Montenegro recognized Kosovo\u2019s independence, because Serbia did not want to take part in negotiations about borders if Kosovo was not included in the process as part of Serbia. Negotiations resumed in March 2011, but there is still a long way to go in order to reach an agreement on state borders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>People living in the border areas<\/strong>\u00a0have still not got used to crossing the border at border crossings and still have difficulties getting used to procedures for selling goods from Serbia in Montenegro. Other\u00a0<strong>problems<\/strong>\u00a0they face are related to underdevelopment and migration.<\/p>\n<p>BCSP will soon address authorities in Serbia and Montenegro with a list of recommendations to improve this situation.<\/p>\n<p><em>This case study is a product of project The People\u2019s Peacemaking Perspectives, a joint initiative implemented by Conciliation Resources and Saferworld and financed under the European Commission\u2019s Instrument for Stability.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this study we explored\u00a0how the incomplete demarcation process influences local communities and what their priorities are concerning this issue.
