The impact of Chinese investments on the lives of citizens – access to justice

The ruling political elite paves the way for Chinese investors to the detriment of the state and its citizens. Research conducted by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy has shown that many residents of Smederevo, Bor, and Zrenjanin believe that companies from China are privileged and that their management behaves as if they “own everything” without caring about regulations, the environment, or public health. The message that the state sends to foreign investors with this behavior is that it pays for them to exploit resources for profit, bypassing regulations, polluting the environment, and endangering the health and property of Serbian citizens, since it does not bear the consequences and criminal responsibility.
