Paris should take a brave approach and involvement in helping reforms on the ground in the Western Balkans instead of maintaining the status quo and further losing its credibility in the region – it was concluded during the online event “France and the Western Balkans’ EU membership”, organized by BCSP on Friday, March 5th .

Besides big players like Russia and China, today there are a lot more non-western countries involved in the Balkans and this kind of change of foreign policies led to some deals and agreements between this non-western countries and the Balkans, in both geopolitical and economic way. This was pointed out on the online discussion “Turkey, Israel and the United Arab Emirates in the Balkans” organized by LSE IDEAS and Ratiu Forum, in the partnership with BCSP.

We hereby express our dissatisfaction with the lack of reforms that the Government of Serbia has accepted to implement in the EU accession process, the deterioration of respect for democratic principles and the rule of law, the presence of hate speech and the increase in violence against individuals, journalists, media, those who do not share views of the current political establishment and civil society organizations, which are guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Serbia, who present critical views of the work and results of state institutions and bodies.

This overview is one of the outputs of the regional project “Western Balkans Security Barometer” (WBSB), led by the Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) in partnership with the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) in Serbia. This edition of the WBSB presents the findings of this survey conducted simultaneously in Kosovo and Serbia in September - October 2020.

The public opinion poll conducted by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) in October 2020 shows that the society is divided, both when it comes to measures taken in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic and regarding the reaction of the competent institutions to the health crisis.
