Management of human resources, changing the Law on Police, the creation of a professional police service and strengthening the sector of internal control are the measures which should be undertaken in order to reduce the risk of corruption in the police, it was concluded during panel discussions held on 14 and 15 April in Brus, Prokuplje and Nis.

Rapid progress regarding integration of the former members of Serbian Ministry of Interior (MoI) in Northern Kosovo into Kosovo Police requires further investments by Belgrade and Pristina authorities and international community.

Gender analysis of key criminal justice statistics and the difference in quality of data records of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia were the topics of the second seminar „Gender analysis in strategic planning and reporting in the police".

During their work at the Kosovar Center for Security Studies, BCSP researchers Maja Bjelos and Bojan Elek have conducted more than 20 interviews, as a part of their field work on the integration of Serbian police officers from Northern Kosovo into the Kosovo police. The number of psychologists in the Ministry of Internal Affairs must be increased, but also, the awareness of police managers should be raised, in order for them to better understand their role in giving support to their employees, that was concluded during the presentation of the ninth edition of Collection of Policy Papers on Police Reform in Serbia.

Psychological support for police officers, fight against organised crime, and human rights and police are topics analyzed by authors in ninth edition of the Collection. This publication is published by Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP), Belgrade Centre for Human Rights (BCHR) and Centre for Development Policy and Co-operation (CDPC), with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia.

During the next two weeks BCSP researchers Maja Bjelos and Bojan Elek will be a part of Kosovar Center for Security Studies (KCSS) team, as a guest researchers.

The authors of eight Collection propose recommendations for improvement of the fight against corruption in the police, the realization of the concept of community policing and upgrading the role of the police in the exercise of and respect for the rights of vulnerable groups.
