Security Sector Reform in Serbia – achievements and prospects
International Conference, Sava Centre, Belgrade, October 30-31, 2006
The Centre for Civil-Military Relations, in cooperation and with support of the Government of Czech Republic and the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces, will organize a two day international conference “Security Sector Reform in Serbia -achievements and prospects”. The Conference will be held in the Sava Centre, in Belgrade, on October 30-31, 2006.
The conference aims at providing an opportunity for the initiation of public dialogue among state officials, civilian experts and civil society on the security sector in Serbia – its features, main achievements during the last six years, as well as the prospects for the future development.
In order to enrich this discussion with comparative insights from another state that had to deal with authoritarian heritage, and to reform its security sector simultaneously with societal, economic and political system, we have invited the experts from Czech Republic to present their experience. The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), as one of the leading research institutions regarding the security sector reform and governance in transitional societies, would familiarise the conference participants with the lessons learned. The representatives of the State, military and the civil sector in Serbia, as well as the media representatives, will participate at the Conference.
