BCSP interns discussed advocacy strategies
What are the next steps after conducting and publishing research findings and policy recommendations? What is advocacy? In what ways can civil society advocate for public policies? What is specific about advocacy in the field of security? These are just some of the topics that BCSP interns discussed with Marko Drajić, BCBP Advocacy and Projects Manager.
Interns had the opportunity to learn about the concept and different models of advocacy, as well as the benefits of civil society participation in decision-making and the process of designing and implementing public policies.
In the second part of the workshop, the interns talked to the lecturer about the specific products they designed in the previous period and potential platforms and ways of advocacy. Also, through concrete examples from BCSP’s experience, the lecturer explained to the participants how advocacy looks like in practice and referred to the specifics of advocating policies in the field of security.
The workshop was the last in a series of trainings that interns have undergone since September 2020. The workshops were designed to cover all stages of research, from identifying a problem and formulating a research question, through communication tricks, to advocating for public policies.
“Through this workshop, interns gained theoretical knowledge and received practical advice about advocacy and various platforms and tips that can be used for advocacy in the field of security in Serbia and broader. With this workshop, the interns got a complete picture and found out what they can do after the research was conducted in order to ensure that their recommendations reach the right address”, said Marija Ignjatijević, coordinator of the BCSP internship program.
The workshop was held within the project “Empowering Youth to Promote Security Sector Reform”, which the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy is organizing with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Government of Sweden.
