More than half of Serbian citizens trust the police, while two-thirds believe that corruption is widespread in this institution, it was pointed out at the presentation of results of the public opinion survey "The Citizens’ Opinions of Police Force" organized by BCSP in the framework of the regional POINTPULSE network.

In Serbia, integrity testing for police officers has been mentioned ever since 2012, but neither the employees of the Ministry of Interior nor the public are acquainted with the advantages or challenges of the implementation of this anti-corruption measure.

Integrity testing has been the subject of public discussion in Serbia since 2012. The Law on Police, which introduced three preventive anti-corruption measures, including the integrity test, was enacted four years later.

Mapping insecurity sources for young women and men in Vranje, also analysing locations in the city that are considered insecure were main activities conducted by BCSP researchers during November of 2015.

Corruption is the second biggest problem on the Western Balkans, right after the unemployment, and citizens are especially affected by the corruption within police force, the institution which should conduct its eradication the most, according to the survey of public opinion on police integrity.

After conducting a public competition, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy and Society Against Corruption have elected the members of the Group for strengthening civil oversight of public procurement in Serbian security sector (PRO-CURE).

BCSP researchers Katarina Djokic and Vladimir Erceg analyze the role of the Parliament in the oversight of those aspects of the security institutions’ work where the corruption risks are particularly prominent: budgeting and management of finance, public procurements, material resources management, human resources management, application of special procedures and measures for secret intelligence gathering.

Strengthening the integrity in the security sector was the subject of expert consultations which gathered 28 representatives of the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, Security-Information Agency, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the Ombudsman, the Commissioner for Information of Public importance and Personal Data Protection, Agency for fighting against corruption, the Public Procurement Office and the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, from 9 to 11 July at Fruska Gora.
