BCSP visit connects the media and the security institutions

Study visit to security institutions in Pozarevac that BCSP organized for journalists received wide media publicity, which was followed with numerous media appearances on current security issues.

BCSP organized study tour for journalists from national and local media to Correctional Institute for Women, Army Training Center and the Police Department, all based in Pozarevac.

The delegation included representatives of the daily and weekly newspapers (Danas, Kurir, Novi Magazin, Akter, Link casopis) and broadcasting companies (B92, Prva, Avala, Novosadska, Apolo).

After they gained direct insight of the position of women in security sector journalists produced a number of reports that made gender equality very significant topic.

Employees of the institutions we visited noted that this program helped them achieve better understanding of and cooperation with the media.

Cooperation with the media continued very actively after the visit. Journalists contacted BCSP in numerous occasions regarding topics such as engagement of Serbia in peace operations (TV RTS 1), cooperation with the EU Defense Agency (TV Avala) and the Judiciary Union celebration scandal (daily newspaper Kurir).

The study visit on March 6th was preceded by a seminar “Responsible reporting for more equal security sector” that BCSP organized in February.

The visit and the seminar are part of the project “Supporting the implementation of NAP on 1325 in Serbia – towards gender responsive security sector”.
