CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Conflict transformation through empathetic peace education

Belgrade Centre for Security Policy invites you to apply to the program called ''Conflict transformation through empathetic peace education''. The program will strive to bring students from Serbia and Kosovo closer together through education, empathy, and role-playing with the aim of providing a deeper understanding of the process of normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

The program includes online lectures and two in-person academies – Winter Academy (March/April 2023) and Spring Academy  (May 2023). Twenty-eight students will be selected to participate in the program – fourteen from Serbia and fourteen from Kosovo. Students will be engaged in a role-playing simulation of both the technical and political parts of the normalization talks. They will also have an opportunity to monitor and learn about the actual normalization process through innovative techniques, such as board games.

Who can apply to the program?

  • BA and MA students of social sciences in Serbia and Kosovo (political sciences, sociology, law, etc.) under the age of 28
  • Students must be available for in-person participation in the academies, as well as the online workshops before the academies
  • Fluency in English is mandatory
  • Interest and experience in the topic of the Belgrade-Pristina normalization process, reconciliation in the region, peace studies, security issues, or related topics is not a must but will be taken as an advantage of the candidate

Transportation, food, and accommodation costs during both events will be covered by the organizer. Participants will receive certificates after attending both academies and completing the entire program.

The selection of candidates will be based on the candidates’ biographies, their ability to participate in the program, interest in the normalization process, as well as their previous involvement in the subject.

The deadline for applications is 10 February 2023.
