Open discussion marked the third seminar for the fourteenth generation of the BCSP interns
Capacity of Serbia to participate in peacekeeping missions, gender equality in the security sector, as well as writing for Website and preparing for public appearance were the topics of the third seminar for the fourteenth generation of interns held on 16 December in the BCSP library.
The third seminar for interns started with interactive lecture on gender equality in the security sector.
The aim of the lecture of BCSP researchers Maja Bjelos and Aurelija Djan was to present the interns basic concepts of sex and gender in order to explain them how to understand the issue of gender equality in general and especially in the security sector. After a short workshops “Gender and sex” and “Gender boxes and discrimination” they opened a discussion about how men and women are living in Serbia. Interns also learned more about the specific activities carried out within the BCSP projects. The BCSP researchers also spoke about cases of discrimination in Serbia, as well as the lack of mechanisms to prevent discrimination in the security sector.
Civilian capacities in peacekeeping missions
The BCSP researcher Marko Milosevic explained interns when it comes to peacekeeping missions, in what context, what are the risks and benefits from them. After a short theoretical introduction, Milosevic presented the initial findings on the capacity of Serbia to participate in these operations.

Basics of presentation skills and how to write a good report from the event were the subjects of the lecture of BCSP Communications Officer Radomir Cvetkovic. He presented the interns rules they have to follow when writing a report from the event and pointed out the specifics of writing for the website. Also, Cvetkovic talked about presentation skills and interns shared their experiences and observations about public appearances. Interns have shown the great interest for the topic of using social media to promote content. Interns discussed on best ways to place content on Facebook and Twitter and shared their experiences in online communication.
After the lectures, interns discussed about the topics of their research papers. Interns have pointed out that the seminar helped them to more clearly define their interests, which will help them to be more precise in defining the issues, collecting data and writing research papers.
