In order to achieve more efficiency and quality in achieving gender equality, the institution of Ombudsperson has established an expert advisory body Council for Gender Equality, and the BCSP Director Sonja Stojanović was elected as one of the six members.
Domestic violence is still widely socially tolerated and lacks an adequate reaction by state bodies. Visible daily is the disproportionate representation in places where political decisions are made, as well as stereotypical and often insulting representation of women in the media, political speech, and even in the school curriculum.
These are only part of the problems addressed by Serbian Ombudsperson Saša Janković in the process of implementing gender equality.
Council is chaired by Law Professor at University of Novi Sad Marijana Pajvančić, and the remaining five members are Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade Snježana Milivojević, coordinator of the legal team of the Autonomous Women's Center Vanja Macanović, NGO “Bibija” activists Đurđica Ergić, Professor at Belgrade University School of Medicine Slobodan Savić, and coordinator of the LGBT helpline Milan Đurić.
