Trust in the police has been growing in parallel with the perception of corruption and the impression that the work of the police is politicised. This is the main conclusion of the fourth annual public opinion survey "The Citizens’ Opinion of the Police Force" conducted by Belgrade Centre for Security Policy as a member of the regional POINTPULSE network.

More than half of the population in Serbia (56%) showed trust in the police. Over the last three years, a steady yet small increase in the level of trust in the police has been observed. However, it is still below the global average of 60-90%.These are the main findings of a public opinion survey conducted within the framework of the regional network of civil society organizations POINTPULSE.

The latest BCSP working study summarizes the key findings of a survey on national security and responses to security threats. The research was conducted from 26 December 2016 until 14 January 2017 on reprezentative sample of 1,403 adult citizens of Serbia (excluding Kosovo).

More than half of Serbian citizens trust the police, while two-thirds believe that corruption is widespread in this institution, it was pointed out at the presentation of results of the public opinion survey "The Citizens’ Opinions of Police Force" organized by BCSP in the framework of the regional POINTPULSE network.

Corruption is the second biggest problem on the Western Balkans, right after the unemployment, and citizens are especially affected by the corruption within police force, the institution which should conduct its eradication the most, according to the survey of public opinion on police integrity.

This is the first study of public opinion in realization of civil society organization where the focus is on the perception of corruption in the police, citizens' personal experiences with corruption in the police and evaluation of the reforms of the police in this area.

The majority of citizens in Serbia and Albania support the continuation of the Brussels dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina even if it is not a condition for EU membership, while the most of population of Kosovo and Metohija favors the Dialogue only if it will increase the chances of EU membership. This was highlighted during the presentation of the public opinion research findings in the Media Center on 31st October 2013.

Basic research techniques, the process of public opinion researches and the problem of corruption in police were the topics of the second seminar for the fourteenth generation of the BCSP interns.

Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) in cooperation with Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) and Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) presents the latest public opinion research findings on the Brussels dialogue, the future of relations within the Belgrade-Pristina-Tirana triangle, and human security in each community.
