Research projects in focus of the second seminar for the XIV generation of the BCSP interns

Basic research techniques, the process of public opinion researches and the problem of corruption in police were the topics of the second seminar for the fourteenth generation of the BCSP interns.

The second seminar for the XIV generation of BCSP interns raised discussion on the research methodology and techniques, and various forms of presentation of the research findings of think-tank organizations.

BCSP Executive Director Predrag Petrovic explained the process of research and basic data collection methods. The importance of a precise definition of the problem, object and purpose of research and hypotheses setting was pointed out to the interns. Showcase of specific examples made interns more acquainted with the process of writing and implementing research projects.

Public opinion research was the subject of the presentation of BCSP researcher Katarina Djokic. She showed how the research is conducted through the analysis of the main stages: research design, questionnaire development, field research and input, processing and analysis of data. How the research process look like in implementation explained BCSP researcher Marko Milosevic. On an example of public opinion research on the perception of safety he pointed out possible problems during the survey, as well as the ways to analyse and cross the collected data.

What is corruption in the police and what makes a corrupted policeman were the main topics explained by the BCSP researcher Sasa Djordjevic. He talked about the causes of corrupt activities in the police and presented the results of researches on police corruption to the interns. After the lectures, interns selected research topics.

Interns agreed that the gained knowledge on the projects development and practical issues related to research and ways of implementing public opinion surveys were very useful for their future work.

“During the seminar I have clarified many doubts related to the research paper I'm supposed to write at the end of my internship. Now it's more clear to me how to approach the subject of research and what forms of presenting the findings exist”, said Aleksandra Djordjevic, intern of the fourteenth generation.
