Under the European Commission’s 2018 Western Balkan strategy, candidate countries from the region must resolve bilateral disputes before joining the EU. As it wants to avoid importing conflicts, the EU puts the onus to ensure good neighbourly relations onto the region itself.

For the fifth consecutive year, BCSP was voted as one of the best think tanks in Central and Eastern Europe, and among the best in the world on the research topics of defense and national security, and foreign policy and international relations.

Based on the latest findings from the most known global ranking of think tanks, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) is the top ranking think thank in the Western Balkans among all those researching defense and national security, and foreign policy and international relations.

Some progress was made in the process of normalisation of relations between Serbia and Kosovo, drafting the new Law on Police and establishment of the Office for Asylum, whereas no progress was made in the area of rule of law, gender equality, preventing violence against women, protection of the victims of trafficking in human beings, systemic management of migrations, were the conclusions of the prEUgovor network’s representatives.

EU integration process and the perspective of Albanian - Serbian Relations was the overall topic of the 7th Security Research Forum ‘Belgrade-Prishtina-Tirana’ held in Tirana on 13 November 2014.

The answer to stability in the Western Balkans is better cooperation in the triangle Belgrade-Pristina-Tirana, and it could be reached by establishing closer and more direct cooperation and effective communication between Serbian and Kosovo police, it was concluded during the sixth Security Research Forum.

It is necessary to put an end to past conflict and move forward into the future marked by cooperation and understanding, it was concluded by the participants of the Summer School on Security Policy - six-day seminar which gathered young people from Serbia, Kosovo and Albania in exchanging experiences and participating in a series of discussions and lectures on security policy, regional cooperation and the Serbian-Albanian relations.
