The subject of this publication is the integrity of the three most significant security sector institutions in Serbia: the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia; the Ministry of the Interior and the police; and the Security Information Agency.

The debate organized by the BCSP outlined clear legal framework, procedures, appropriate control, and independence from any sort of political influence as requirements in order to strengthen the security services integrity.

Strengthening the integrity in the security sector was the subject of expert consultations which gathered 28 representatives of the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, Security-Information Agency, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the Ombudsman, the Commissioner for Information of Public importance and Personal Data Protection, Agency for fighting against corruption, the Public Procurement Office and the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, from 9 to 11 July at Fruska Gora.

Journalists from six national and seven local and regional media participated in the training organized by Belgrade Center for Security Policy (BCSP) held on April 24-25, aiming to teach them how to do research on corruption in police, military and security services

Exchange of information and creation of optimal conditions for realistic reporting regarding the level of presence of corruption risks in the Ministry of Defence of Republic of Serbia were the main objectives of the meeting held on April 24 in 2014 at the Ministry of Defence.

BCSP researchers Katarina Djokic and Marko Milosevic analyze the latest provisions to modify and supplement the Law on Defence and the Law on the Serbian Armed Forces.

During the first lecture in the BCSP series "Champions of diversity" Australian Ambassador to Serbia Helen Studdert spoke about the challenges which women and men were facing in the Australian Army during the adoption and implementation of policies directed towards improving position of women in the military.

BCBP in cooperation with the Commissioner for Protection of Equality and the support of the media influenced the Police Academy and the University of Defence to abolish discriminatory admission policies that restricted the number of women who can be educated in these institutions.

Peacekeeping operation are in the nexus of modern civil-military cooperation, and will continue to present a test for the ability of the armed forces, their level of training and interoperability - these were conclusions of the roundtable "Future of (Serbia’s) Security Integration: Cooperation in Defence and Peacekeeping," that BCSP Researcher Marko Savkovic participated in.
