The Costs of Explosions at the Ammunition Depots in Serbia

A recent expert opinion on the causes of the accident at the ammunition factory „Prvi partizan" in Uzice established that the explosion was caused by bad gunpowder. These findings refute the findings of the previous expertise according to which human factor was the cause of the accident. Read what the BCSP research team discovered in 2011 about this accident, as well as about the tragedy in Paracin.

The BCSP research team produced a report based on the findings of the research about the direct and indirect effects of the weapon warehouses and weapon factories explosions in Serbia.

The case studies were the explosion in “Karadjordjevo brdo” near Paracin, in October 2006, and the tragedy in the unit “Rupa” of the factory “Prvi partizan” near Užice, in September 2009.

Small Arms Survey (“Research” or “Review” of small arms, abbreviated SAS) is a research project which was initiated with the goal to provide policy makers, researchers and activists with information about the relationship between (the proliferation of) small arms and light weapons (SALW) and (the escalation of) armed conflicts around the world.

The survey was conducted in June and July 2011 with the support of the Small Arms Survey Organisation. Full report in English can be downloaded in the document below.
