Launch of the report “Gender and Security Sector Reform in Serbia”
The Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP), together with the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence (BFPE) and the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) is pleased to invite you to the launch of the report ‘Gender and Security Sector Reform in Serbia’. Event will be held on 30 September 2010, from 9:30hrs- 12:30hrs in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia (Trg Nikole Pašića 13, Belgrade).
The report analyzes the achievements and obstacles of gender integration in the security sector in Serbia. It examines the status of women both as actors and beneficiaries of the security sector and provides recommendations on how to improve the current situation in several areas related to gender and security sector reform, such as:
- The position of women employed in security institutions
- Women as beneficiaries of justice and security providers in Serbia in cases of domestic and gender-based violence
- The functioning of and coordination between central, provincial and local gender equality mechanisms and their cooperation with security institutions
- Cooperation between gender and security institutions and civil society organizations
A substantial part of the information from this report is based on the findings from the consultations on gender and security sector reform with local stakeholders, held in the first half of 2010 in four municipalities throughout Serbia. Consultations were held with the representatives of local gender equality mechanisms, local safety bodies, police, civil society and international organizations and media. In addition, the main findings were discussed and validated during a conference in Belgrade, gathering representatives of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, the Gender Equality Council, and civil society organisations, as well as through interviews with representatives of central and provincial gender equality bodies and women CSOs active in fighting domestic violence and human trafficking.
Please, confirm your participation until Monday, 27 September 2010 by e-mail: gorana.odanovic@ccmr-bg.org or by phone: 011/3287 334.
