Violent Extremism in the Western Balkans
The aim of the conference is to discus violent extremism in the Western Balkans – its roots and various forms – as well as to address challenges in combating this phenomenon.
Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defence Academies and Security Studies Institutes in partnership with the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) is organising the conference “Violent Extremism in the Western Balkans,” which will be held on September 28-29, 2015, in Zira Hotel, 35 Ruzveltova Street, Belgrade.
The conference will seek to answer the following questions:
- What is the potential for violent extremism in the Western Balkans?
- How can the region prevent radicalization?
- Is the Islamic state a threat to the Western Balkans?
- Should returning foreign fighters be reintegrated or sanctioned?
- What is the role of media in the fight against violent extremism?
- Is “the Greater Albania” project a myth or reality?
- What are the links between the right wing extremism and right wing political parties?
- How can the region cooperate in the prevention of radicalization?
- What role for the international community in the fight against violent extremism in the Western Balkans?
The conference will gather representatives of think tanks, media and academia from WB and EU countries. The conference is closed for public and it will be organized under the Chatham House rules.
