Delegation of NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) led by the Chairman of the Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security Michael Clapham (United Kingdom) and the representatives of the Sub-Committee on Future Security and Defence Capabilities visited the Centre for Civil-Military Relations on Monday, April 21.
The discussion on the achievements of the defence reform in Serbia which was hosted by the Centre, presented a part of the official PA Delegation visit to Belgrade and Pristina. Plan of this visit proposed a two-day stay in Belgrade, where members of the delegation were handed an opportunity to speak with decision makers in Serbia’s security and defence policy.
After welcoming address by Miroslav Hadžić, president of the Centre’s Managerial Board, Vice-president Milorad Timotić shared more light on the first ten years of the Centre’s development as a CSO. Danijela Nenadić, coordinator in the Centre for non-violent resistance offered one view of Serbia’s inter-ethnic relations, in the light of Kosovo’s unilateral independence and elections set for May 11.
Filip Ejdus, Centre’s Executive Director continued, speaking on the achievements of the defence reform. One part of Filip’s presentation was dedicated to analysis of the strategic culture showed by Serbia’s political elites.
Risks and threats to regional security appeared to be in the centre of guests’ interest: incomplete social and political transformation, dilemmas of placing the security sector under democratic oversight, uncertain future of Euro-Atlantic integration and finally, prospects for passing the stalemate in cooperation with the ICTY was all subjected to questions.
