BCSP has formed a working group for Chapter 24
Working group for Chapter 24 operates within the National Convent on the European Union in order to monitor the process of negotiations between Serbia and EU in the areas of freedom, security and justice. The group is consisted of representatives from civil society, the media and professional associations as well as individuals who are engaged in policies in these areas.
Working group for Chapter 24 was officially established at the constitutive meeting held on 18 July 2014. in the library of the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy. Organizations and individuals gathered in this group will contribute to the process of negotiations with the EU through the formulation of proposals for the improvement of policies in the areas of freedom, security and justice.
Newsletter on justice, freedom and security
Members of the working group on Chapter 24 have agreed on priorities for the coming period as well as on the key principles of participation in the negotiation process – transparency, inclusiveness and informing of public. The working group will formulate conclusions, recommendations and opinions and forward them to state institutions involved in the negotiations. In order to better informing of the public, members of the working group will start the newsletter on justice, freedom and security. This publication will bring policies covered by Chapter 24, and which implementation is directly important for the safety and security of all citizens of Serbia.
The first following activity of the working group for the Chapter 24 will be meeting with representatives of the state negotiating team for this chapter, including the Head of the negotiating team Tanja Miščević, as well as the newly appointed State Secretary of the Ministry Interior, which will be the main negotiator in this area. The meeting will be held in early August this year, and the topic will be the presentation of the screening report for Chapter 24, which was submitted to Serbia by the European Commission, as a detailed analysis of the situation in these areas, with recommendations on measures to be taken.
The working group has 12 members
Besides the BCSP, who is the coordinator of the working group for Chapter 24, the members are the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights, the European Policy Centre, Center for Investigative Jounalism in Serbia, Centre for Civil Society Development Protecta, Asylum Protection Center, the Judges Association of Serbia, Group 484, South news, Praxis, Association of Prosecutors of Serbia and the Victimology Society of Serbia.
