BCSP researchers on the exchange in Pristina

During the next two weeks BCSP researchers Maja Bjelos and Bojan Elek will be a part of Kosovar Center for Security Studies (KCSS) team, as a guest researchers.

During their stay in Pristina, Maja Bjelos and Bojan Elek will be doing research on the integration of the Serbian police officers from northern Kosovo into Kosovar police force, as stipulated in the Brussels agreement from 17th of April, 2013.

„Our stay in Pristina will be an excellent opportunity for us to get an in-depth understanding of what the dynamics of the police integration process is at the local level. The field work that we plan to conduct while here and the invaluable information that we will obtain are essential for the purpose of our research project“, said Maja Bjelos.

While working at the Kosovar Center for Security Studies, BCSP researchers will be interviewing officials from Kosovo police and Serbian police officers who are undergoing the integration process. They will also have several meetings with representatives of international community, including the ambassadors of Norway and the United Kingdom. In addition to this, Bjelos and Elek are going to deliver a public lecture at the University of Pristina on Serbian military neutrality and be a part of the panel on the occasion of launching the publication Minority Inclucion in the Security Sector in Kosovo. Also, the two researchers will be hosted on the local TV station in Gracanica which broadcasts in Serbian language.

„Besides the fact that this exchange program allows us to conduct our research on the integration of Serbian police officers into Kosovo police, by having access to the information in the field, it also serves the purpose of bringing closer together young professionals from Belgrade and Pristina and enhancing our understanding of the issues of concern for both communities“, said Bojan Elek.

The field work of this research project is going to be completed by 8th of March and the final product is going to be launched in early April.

The research is conducted as a part of the Security Research Forum Belgrade-Pristina-Tirana, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, with the actual exchanged enabled by the Professional Work Exchange for Enhanced Policy Dialogue Program, organized by The Balkan Trust for Democracy and supported by Foreign Commonwealth Office, United Kingdom.
