Why is Serbian democracy corrupt?

BCSP invites you to participate in the online discussion on our findings of the public opinion poll on the state of democracy in Serbia. The event is scheduled for January 31 at 3 p.m. (CET) on the Zoom, YouTube, and Facebook platforms.

The public often wonders what is the cause of the poor state of democracy in Serbia. Do citizens believe in democracy at all, or does the autocratic governing system have greater support? What do citizens think about the concentration of power, and what about its corruption? How much and under what conditions are people ready to step out of their comfort zone and fight for their beliefs?

Our researchers analysed citizens’ attitudes regarding these and many other issues to figure out the causes of the dismal state of democracy in Serbia and the consequences that citizens feel due to the destruction of all democratic standards by the government.

The analysis of the public opinion poll entitled “There Is No Democracy in Serbia, nor is it Desirable” will be presented by the BCSP research director, Predrag Petrovic, and Srdjan Hercigonja, BCSP senior researcher. Biljana Stepanović, editor-in-chief of Nova ekonomija, will moderate the discussion and give her comments and assessments.

The introductory speech will be given by Igor Bandović, director of BCSP.

If you want to participate, ask a question or comment on the findings and conclusions of our researchers, please register here by Friday, January 28, after which you will receive a Zoom link.

This event is organised within the Western Balkans Security Barometer project in cooperation with the Kosovo Centre for Security Studies and with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy.
