Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) is organising the discussion “Public (un)wanted in European integration” in Media Center Belgrade (Terazije 3, 2nd floor), on Tuesday, 28th of March 2017, starting at 10 am.
BCPS is opening the debate on how much are citizens of Serbia objectively and timely informed, especially about the most complex chapters in the negotiations with EU – Chapter 23 (Judiciary and fundamental rights) and Chapter 24 (Justice, freedom and security).
Findings from a six-month BCSP research on availability of the information of public importance in the EU integration process will be presented at the conference.
Speakers at the first panel will be Rodoljub Sabic, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Marinika Tepic, president of the European Integration Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Jugoslav Milacic, Advisor to the Minister without portfolio in charge for EU integration.
At the second panel discussion, Danijela Bozovic, Centre for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA), Nemanja Nenadic, Transparency Serbia and prEUgovor coalition and Petar Zmak, Civic Initiatives and National Konvent Working group for Chapter 23 will take part.
The event will offer answers on the following questions:
- Are citizens well and thoroughly informed about changes which had already happened or are pending in process of European integration?
- Which informations are available on European integration? Which are not and why?
- How is document category “restricted/limited” applied?
- Who are the most common requesters of the informations on Chapters 23 and 24?
- How many Request for Access to Information of Public Importance have the CSOs sent to Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Justice for the Chapters 23 and 24?
- How did the public institutions answer to these requests ?
The working language of the conference is Serbian, and simultaneous translation into English will be provided.
Research is product of the project „Real say on policy“, which is implemented in the project by Trag Foundation in the partnership with organizations CRTA, National coalition for decentralization (NKD) and Foundation Slavko Ćuruvija, and with financial support by USAID.
