Dialogue Between Civil Society and Government Body on Implementation of the NAP 1325
Two years after Serbia adopted the National Action Plan (NAP) for the implementation of Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security, BCSP is organising the conference so that relevant stakeholders from government and civil society could discuss what has been done so far and find a model to increase the transparency of the implementation of the NAP 1325.
Dialogue between civil society organizations and the Multi-sectoral Coordinating Body for the Implementation of the National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325 (MSCB) is organised by BCSP and MSCB, in cooperation with the Office for Cooperation with Civil Society (OCCS) and with support from the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
The main topics of the dialogue that will take place on 11th December 2012 (from 9AM) in the National Bank of Serbia conference hall will be:
- Findings of the UNSC R1325 NAP implementation report;
- National Action Plan and opportunities for cooperation between civil society organizations and institutions in the Republic of Serbia;
- Violence against women and achieving the goals set in Chapter V of NAP;
- Multiple discrimination of marginalized groups and their protection/security.
Late in 2010, the Republic of Serbia adopted a National Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (NAP). In this way, Serbia joined the group of only 35 countries in the world that have so far enacted such a document. Its goals are to ensure equal participation, advancement and decision-making role of women in the security sector as well as women's active participation in the negotiation process related to conflict relaxation and search for peaceful solutions.
During 2012, cooperation was established between the MSCB and BCSP based on which it was proposed to organize a dialogue between the MSCB and civil society organizations (CSOs) that would gather together representatives of interested organizations and relevant government institutions in order to exchange experiences so far in dealing with gender equality and security issues in the Republic of Serbia and discuss means for establishing a regular mutual communication in the implementation of the NAP. To this end, since May 2012, BCSP organized three consultative meetings with representatives of CSOs concerned with security and the protection of human rights, particularly women's rights that define the themes of interest for the organizations taking part in the Dialogue.
