Egypt in transition – a talk with Ahmed Kandil, researcher and journalist from Egypt, BCSP at 4pm
The BCSP facilitates a panel discussion on the political and wider social momentum facing Egypt after the revolution.
{image1}The goal of this discussion is to bring the Belgrade public and academic circles closer to the political process in Egypt, or better to say the transition that was prolonged after Mubarak's fall. The speaker is Ahmed Kandil, researcher and journalist from Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies.
The discussion will begin at 4pm on June 5th, with moderation by a BCSP representative. The event is in English, without translation.
The issues that will be covered include:
- Revolution and transition in Egypt – brief overview including main political players and the balance of power between them;
- The role of the security sector (police, army, intelligence) – challenges for reconstruction;
- The role of civil society organizations in the process;
- Upcoming trials of NGO workers;
- The presidential elections in Egypt and what can be expected after the second round is over;
Ahmed Kandil is actively involved in the political life and turmoil in Egypt. He has first-hand experience important for understanding the situation in that country, and is willing to share his knowledge with the interested public. His arrival in Belgrade is a return visit and a continuation of the successful cooperation with BCSP which was achieved during the training facilitate by our team for civil society organizations in Egypt.
