Prevention of Violence in Sport
The results of the implementation of the National Strategy for Fight against Violence and Misbehavior at Sporting Events is the main topic of the discussion, which will be held on Tuesday, 17 December at 10am at the Media Center (second floor, Terazije 3, Belgrade).
In August, a group of hooded hooligans threw torches, attacked cars with baseball bats and injured three people on the Milos the Great highway. Just a few days later, dozens of people participated in a mass fight in Novi Sad before the start of the football game. Hooliganism has again become a hot topic, at the same time when the most successful Serbian football clubs qualified for the Champions League and the Europa League.
In 2013, Serbian Government adopted the National Strategy for Fight against Violence and Misbehavior at Sporting Events, as a first step towards the systematic prevention of violence in sports, which expired in 2018. During the event, BCSP will present the results of the first research on the implementation of this Strategy, based on analysis of almost 200 violent incidents, 133 court rulings and 20 interviews.
The questions in the focus of the discussion will be:
- What are the main characteristics of violent incidents related to sports?
- What is the court practice regarding violence at sports events?
- How good is the response to sports-related violence?
- What are accomplishments of the National Council for the Prevention of Negative Occurrences in Sport?
- Is there a need for a new strategic plan for sports-related violence?
Speakers:
- Saša Đorđević, BCSP Researcher
- Ivana Jeremić, BalkanInsight editor
Moderator:
- Slobodan Georgiev, journalist and Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) editor
Please, RSVP by Wednesday, May 29, by email office@bezbednost.org or phone 011/3287-226.
