Towards a better strategic response to extremism in Serbia
BCSP invites you to the round table discussion on extremism in Serbia - where we are today and what we need to do to improve the situation in the coming period. The round table will take place on Friday, February 11, from 12:00 to 14:00.
The planned period of implementation of the National Strategy for Prevention and Fight against Terrorism ended in 2021, and the development of a new one will begin this year. The process of adopting the new Strategy includes assessing the impact of the previous one and analyzing the current situation in this area. The Belgrade Centre for Security Policy and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights researched violent extremism in Serbia in the past year. We will present the key findings during the discussion.
Some of the issues we will discuss are:
- What are the dominant forms of violent extremism in Serbia today?
- What are the generators of violent extremism?
- What is the response of local communities and state institutions to violent extremism?
- What are the consequences of extremist actions?
- What are the citizens’ attitudes towards extremism?
An introduction will be provided by:
- Bojan Elek, Deputy Director, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy
- Izabela Kisić, Executive Director, Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia
The results of the research will be briefly presented by:
- Predrag Petrović, Research Director, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy
- Marija Ignjatijević, Researcher, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy
- Nikola Kovačević, lawyer
- Jarmila Bujak Stanko, psychologist
English translation is provided.
If you want to participate, please register here by Thursday, February 10, after which you will receive a Zoom link.
The round table is jointly organized by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, the Committee of Lawyers for Human Rights, and the National Convention on the EU, with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Kosovar Centre for Security Policy and National Endowment for Democracy.
