Security Transitions in the Western Balkans: From Conflict Zone to Security Community?
Is police cooperation in the Western Balkans a success story and whether diplomats, soldiers and academics see regional security cooperation differently, these are the topics of the regional conference BCSP and Analytica are organizing.
The conference titled “Security Transitions in the Western Balkans: From Conflict Zone to Security Community?” will take place on Thursday 19 December 2013, at 9:30, in the Hotel Stone Bridge, Skopje – Macedonia (Nikola Vapcarov Str. no. 10).
This event will bring together think tanks from Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro and Croatia working on security related issues.
Key objectives of the conference are:
- To provide answer to the question, whether the Western Balkans has become asecurity community where all the disputes between countries are resolved in a peaceful manner.
- To illuminate how different professionals (soldiers, police(wo)men, diplomats and academics) cooperate on security related topics in the region and which of these contribute the most to regional security cooperation
- To map the success stories of regional security cooperation as well as the gaps.

The panel discussion is based on original empirical findings from the collaborative research project “Security Transitions in Western Balkans: from Conflict Zone to Security Community”, funded by the Research Council of Norway.
