BCSP researcher Maja Bjelos presented on the conference in Kazakhstan
Monitoring and measuring progress in implementation UNSCR 1325 in Serbia was the subject of presentation held by BCSP researcher Maja Bjelos at the international conference „Enhancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian Region" held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 11. and 12. November 2013.
During the conference women peace activists shared voices and opinions in regard to challenges and perspectives of mainstreaming gender equality dimensions into peace building and post-conflict reconstruction processes.
„Effective implementation of UNSCR 1325 at the national level requires robust monitoring, evaluation and reporting mechanisms together with clearly allocated funds. Unfortunatly, many countries that adopted NAP 1325 lack these things and thus face problems in measuring progress in implementation“, said Maja Bjelos.
The aim of the conference was to raise awareness of participating States on international commitments reflected in UNSCRs on Women, Peace and Security and also to review existing efforts, best practices and lessons learnt from developing, implementing and monitoring national action plans or other implementation strategies related to the UNSCRs.
The conference was organized as a support for meaningful participation of activists in on-going dialogues and initiatives on peace and security at all levels and served as a oportunity to define ways and perspectives to support and address the demand of countries for knowledge, expertise and resources available in regard of practical implementation of UNSCRs.
The conference was organized by OSCE, UN Women and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
