Gender Mainstreaming: Indicators for the Implementation of UNSCR 1325
The implementation of UNSCR 1325 - Women, Peace, and Security in military operations , including the role of women in support of the population affected by natural disasters are the main topics of the international conference which will be held on May 26 and 27, from 9 AM in Hotel Metropol in Belgrade.
The aim of the two-day conference is the exchange of experiences on translating the objectives of Resolution 1325 in the practical state measures and identifying challenges and good practices of implementation of the principles of resolution 1325, particularly in military operations.
Opening remarks will be given by:
- Zoran Đorđević, State secretary in the Ministry of Defence of Republic of Serbia
- Marija Obradović, Chairwomen of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee, National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia
- Mari Skère, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace, and Security
- Sonja Stojanović Gajić, Director, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, Serbia
The conference will involve over 140 policymakers and experts from more than 20 NATO member and partner states. Working language of the event is English.
During the meeting, the topics will be:
* How do women contribute to peace building, rehabilitation of natural disasters and solving security problems?
* What are the examples of good practices of involving women and gender perspective in planning and carrying out military operations, including operations of support to the civilian population in natural disasters?
* Which countries have the best models for the integration of gender perspective in the management of armies and which are the best practices that Serbia can offer its international partners?
During the conference particular attention will be given to: (1) The conditions under which National Action Plans were elaborated; (2)The implementation of the plans-special attention will be given to implementation at the military level. The meeting will identify challenges as well as best practices. Belgrade meeting is part of a broader project that aims to assess how the goals and objectives of UNSCR 1325 have been operationalized by NATO member and partner states, and to identify lessons learned and best practices.
