New guest researchers in the BCSP

Sofije Kryeziu and Shpend Kursani, researchers from Kosovar Center for Security Studies (KCSS), will be a part of the BCSP team as guest researchers in February and March 2014.

Sofije Kryeziu will be joining the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) for a period of one month starting from 18th February 2014.

“During my engagement in BCSP I will be drafting a research paper on the minority inclusion in the security sector in Serbia. More concretely the aim of this research is to provide a brief analysis regarding the inclusion of ethnic Albanian minority in Serbia's security institutions, with the primary focus on the Police and Gendarmerie”, said Kryeziu.

Sofije Kryeziu works as a Researcher/Project Coordinator at the Kosovar Center for Security Studies since November 2011. She has completed the Master Studies in Management, Business and Economy at the University of Business and Technology; whereas, her Bachelor’s Degree she obtained in Political Science, International Relations and Diplomacy with a particular focus on Law, International Relations and Diplomacy at the above-mentioned university. She has been the author/co-author of various security related publications within KCSS.

Shpend Kursani is an External Senior Researcher at the KCSS. During his engagement in BCSP Kursani will conduct a two week research on police cooperation between Kosovo and Serbia.

“I will be exploring the modalities of cooperation should EULEX, who serves as the mediator in police cooperation between the two, abolish its executive mandate in Kosovo. Additionally, I will be looking into the challenges with current mode of cooperation and its impact on security threats and their nature for both Kosovo and Serbia”, said Kursani.

He is also a Member of Assembly at the Prishtina Council on Foreign Relations – PCFR, a Founder and Member of the Steering Committee at the Balkan Think Tense – BTT, and an adjunct lecturer in the field of International Relations at the University College Universum. Kursani has pursued his master degree at the University of Cambridge (2010-2011) where he earned his M.Phil. Degree in International Relations with distinctions on his thesis topic “Using Soft Power: The EU’s Ability to Influence the Domestic and Foreign Policies of the States of the Western Balkans”. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Public Policy and Management with the highest honours from the American University in Kosovo (2003-2007).

Kursani's and Kryeziu's work in BCSP is part of the project “Security research forum Belgrade-Pristina-Tirana” which is realizing with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway. Kryeziu's joining the BCSP is enabled by the Professional Work Exchange for Enhanced Policy Dialogue Program which is being organized by The Balkan Trust for Democracy (BTD) and supported by Foreign Commonwealth Office, UK.
