The role of media and social networks in building citizens' trust in the police is the main topic of the conference organized by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) on Thursday, June 14, 2018, starting at 11am in Media Center (Main hall, 2nd floor, Terazije 3, Belgrade).
Research on the communication of police and media in the Western Balkans with a goal to inform citizens about security, crime and corruption, as well as research on how police from the region communicate on social networks will be presented.
Representatives of Ministry of Interior are invited to present the goals and results in communication with the citizens, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Defense as an example of good practice in communicating with the media and through social networks as a security sector institution.
The focus of the discussion will be:
- What is the role of media and social networks in building trust in the police?
- What are the obstacles in communication between the police and the media and how to overcome them?
- What are the obstacles facing journalists when they report on security?
- How do police in the region communicate on social networks?
- What are the goals and results of the Ministry of Interior in communicating with citizens?
- How can the experience of the Ministry of Defense contribute to the improvement of police communication with citizens?

The panel discussion is organized as part of the project “Supporting Improvement of Police Communication in the Western Balkans” supported by the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), and “Western Balkans Pulse for Police Integrity and Trust” supported by the European Union (EU) through the programme “Civil Society Facility”.
